Project Background
This retired couple enlisted One Source Contracting to transform a historic log house into their forever home. Drawn to the property’s rich history (dating back to 1796) and the charm of its original construction, the couple wanted to honor the home’s past while creating a modern living environment that suited their lifestyle. Their vision included a careful restoration of the two-story log house paired with a thoughtfully rebuilt modern addition, blending antiquity with contemporary comforts.
Respectful of both the home’s legacy and the surrounding natural landscape, the clients partnered with log house expert Charles McRaven, currently one of the foremost authorities in hewn log cabin building and restoration. Together with One Source Contracting, they aimed to ensure the historic log house’s integrity is preserved for generations to come.
Why did you hire One Source Contracting?
"We wanted a contractor with whom we were comfortable - someone we thought would be up to our demanding standards as corporate retirees, and Mary wanted someone who had noticeable enthusiasm for restoring the 200-year-old log house. We selected Todd and OSC based on their expertise in historic renovation, Todd’s enthusiasm for the unique project, what we concluded was a fair cost proposal, and the aesthetic 'vibe' of photographs of finished projects that were posted on OSC’s website."

What was the most valuable aspect of working with us?
"We found Todd and his team to be true partners. Early on we established a respectful and candid relationship with Todd- tested with what we thought was going to be a tough discussion which he made easy. Later in our project Mary was paralyzed with cost overruns and couldn’t engage in a discussion about an expensive lighting option for the log house. Todd was forthright in his conviction that we needed to invest in the right lighting for its two rooms. He won her over with both a compelling and heartfelt argument, and by demonstrating his conviction by absorbing installation costs. This was not an isolated incident. Todd does the right thing for his clients and invests in what’s right for their projects, a win for his clients and thereby his business."

What surprised you most about the renovation process?
"Our project was more a building process than a renovation process. Both of us had built new houses in the past so we were aware of typical challenges. We were unprepared for the incessant number of challenges the team had to overcome, most of them associated with integrating and securing a new structure with an old interlocking hewn log house. It felt like one setback after another. Despite it all, Todd managed us and the project as a whole with constructive candor and a level-headed “can do” attitude that kept us and his team moving forward."

What would you tell someone considering working with us?
"Take the time to read all of One Source Contracting’s google reviews. Collectively they fully capture everything that is admirable about Todd and his team. Study OSC’s website and Social Media. Both are filled with photographs of OSC’s work that they are proud of and speak to their expertise in historic restoration. OSC’s highlights as a company include 1) the superb quality of their craftsmanship, 2) Todd’s commitment to do the right thing for his clients and the project, 3) Todd and team’s thoughtful and creative problem-solving, 4) stellar communication from the office staff, and 5) genuine collaborative spirit among the entire time."
