Set within a historic stone mill residence, we built an addition that was originally planned as a sunroom, and transformed it into a highly efficient space that honors the home’s original character while confidently embracing modern design. The challenge lay in bringing a contemporary kitchen into an old structure without erasing the charm and personality that define the house, allowing old and new to coexist in a way that feels authentic. Sleek, high-gloss European inspired cabinetry introduces a crisp, modern contrast to the home’s aged stone and architectural features. This mix of old and new creates visual interest that elevates the space, transforming a modest footprint into a kitchen that feels both dynamic and refined. A large window pass-through enhances openness and connection to adjacent spaces, flooding the kitchen with natural light and reinforcing the sense of addition instead of intrusion. Despite its compact size, the kitchen was carefully planned to maximize efficiency and usability. Thoughtful storage solutions, streamlined layouts, and precision detailing ensure that functionality was never sacrificed for aesthetics. Close collaboration with the homeowners throughout the process allowed the design to reflect their desire for a space that felt true to the home’s spirit while meeting the demands of everyday living.
